Dr Paul Williams is a Clinical Psychologist and a Cognitive Scientist affiliated with the University of Newcastle. He is known for his kind, direct, and simple communication style, which is shaped by extensive experience working with adults, couples, families, and adolescents.
Paul’s practical approach to therapy draws heavily on the sciences of behaviour and learning, memory systems, neuropsychology, family systems, and social psychology. He has completed specialised training in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), Gottman Couples Therapy, and interpersonal therapy (IPT).
Paul is also an occasional presenter and consultant, and as a Conjoint Lecturer remains an active researcher aligned with University of Newcastle. He has co-authored scientific articles in international journals and has presented his research at national and international conferences. His primary research explores the impact of recent success and failure on cognitive performance, and how mental health interacts with these phenomena. He has received several awards for his academic and clinical accomplishments. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, The EMDR association of Australia, and the American Psychological Association.
